RAINFOREST

For EVERY PRACTICE AND EVERY RACE she runs, to offset her carbon footprint and the fuel used during each of her car races, Leilani adopts one acre of endangered tropical rainforest and does carbon offsets with Code Redd (See www.coderedd.org). There is nothing she can do about her racecar fuel as all drivers race the same car and must abide by the Series’ Regulations.

Since 2008, Indy cars run on 100% bio fuel and NASCAR is on a 15% bio fuel mix. The racing world is moving towards becoming more and more sustainable.

CODE REDD: Code REDD is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support and scale the REDD+ mechanism to realize its full potential to empower people, preserve forests, protect wildlife, and reduce emissions.

While offsetting might not be a solution to environmental problems, she feels the necessity to do something.

An area of rain forest the size of seven football fields is destroyed every minute to make room for grazing cattle. More than one-third of all fossil fuels produced in the United States are used to raise animals for food.

Leilani is a long-time vegetarian, consuming an animal friendly and environmentally sound diet and 3 years ago went vegan.

Since 2007, Leilani’s race cars have all had a cause-related or environmental-related theme.
