Leilani Münter’s goal was raising the funds to race her ‘Blackfish Race Car’ on May 3rd at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama to bring awareness to the cause of orcas in captivity .
Her dream suddenly came true during a radio interview with Sam Simon (Sam Simon Radio Show & Co-Creator of The Simpsons) when Sam generously donated the rest of the funding she needed to race.
The Blackfish logo-covered car (from the movie ‘Blackfish’ (www.blackfishmovie.com) will be seen in front of millions of race fans on May 3rd. Blackfish is a documentary about orcas in captivity, mainly about SeaWorld, where a whale, Tilikum, killed his own trainer in front of spectators. The story and the movie made headlines in 2013 when shocking footage and emotional interviews exploring the creature’s extraordinary nature, the species’ cruel treatment in captivity and the lives and losses of the trainers were featured to expose the multi-billion dollar marine park industry.
