boat Nashville had arrived, under
command of the commander Harry
Ross Hubbard.
“At about 2 o’clock in the after-
noon of the 4th, the chief of the troops
(Torres) went to the office of the Pa-
nama Rail Road with the purpose of
communicating by telephone with
Panama, and fearing that he would
be taken prisoner was accompanied
by an escort, who surrounded the offi-
ce when he climbed to see the chief.
With this movement, a few American
soldiers disembarked at once, raising
a new alarm in the population for be-
lieving that it was a combat.

ttalion Tiradores, lay in line of battle
in all the street of the Front, and in
some transverse, and in that attitude
remained until about 5 pm, when a
comission left for Panama in express;
Immediately the American troops
went to their barracks and at night the
American force was reshipped”.
