hat’s the secret be-
hind its success?
Nothing but simple
menus; a secret combination of
local and American meats in-
cluding New York steak, ribeye,
brisket, and chuck, fresh lettuce
and vegetables from Mercado
de Abastos, home-made mayon-
naise, and attention to details.
Felipe told us: At first we chose
the name B-Burger because of
Calle B, but then we thought the
street has its own beat. That also
explains the setting of the place,
inspired by the decades from 85
to the 95 when the hip-hop move-
ment took place, and the evolu-
tion of what today we know as
rap started. Here, each burger
has a story.
To honor those times when
B.I.G and Tupac Shakur were in
some sort of gang warfare, we
have the East Coast, representing
the East Side (pepperoni ketch-
up, mozzarella cheese, pesto, ba-
con, and caramelized plums) and
the West Coast, representing the
West Side (a lighter burger with
whipped cream cheese, wasabi,
and avocado, reminders of Cal-
ifornia Roll.)
Mister Juicy represents the
restaurant. It is a juicy burger
with pickled red onions, bacon,
cheese, and alioli chipotle. The one
that took us to semi-finals in The
Burger Week was the Big Papa,
inspired by Notorious B.I.G. One
of the ingredients of this burger is
pastrami, that’s unusual, but Jewish
culture has notably influenced New
York with regard to gastronomy.
My favorite is called O.G Orig-
inal Gangster, made with tin loaf,
lettuce, tomato, and bacon. It is in-
spired by my favorite burger –and is
not one of mine- in La Inmaculada.
When I was a kid I remember eating
those burgers and feeling like biting
a little piece of happiness. Now, as
an adult, parent, with three daugh-
ters, I feel the same happiness like a
flashback.
