Polo, o sus antecesores, descubrieran
para Europa los fideos (vermicelli).
Italia se deleitaba con helados de nie-
ve con miel y frutas desde el inicio
del imperio. Esa tradición milenaria
ha generado una gastronomía de al-
tísima calidad que se puede disfrutar
en el Casco Antiguo gracias a la fu-
sión entre Panamá e Italia, con una
oferta variada y exquisita. Cafés,
helados, pastas y postres son lo tra-
dicional, pero hay mucho más por
descubrir.

t the end of 1500, eleven Italians
live in Old Panama. They ar-
rived for the works of the North Amer-
ican canal around the two thousand,
being the third contingent, after afro-
antillanos and Spaniards. They have
earned the visa of friendly countries
here. Surnames like Chiari or Martinel-
li have made history in national politics,
and Alberto Motta, who started selling
chocolates at age eight, built the largest
family fortune in Central America.
Italy knew the flat pasta (lasagna) a
thousand years before Marco Polo, or
his predecessors, discovered noodles
(vermicelli) for Europe. Italy delighted
in ice cream with honey and fruit from
the beginning of the empire. This mil-
lennial tradition has generated gastron-
omy of the highest quality that can be
enjoyed in Casco Antiguo thanks to the
fusion between Panama and Italy, with
a varied and exquisite offer. Coffees, ice
cream, pastas and desserts are the tra-
ditional meal, but there is much more
to discover.
