reporting system created a visual
pathway of youth participation
across multiple LVHN locations.
In addition, it allows the DoE to
make decisions regarding effec-
tive youth programs in terms of
trending employment needs.
In 2016, the DoE provided edu-
cation and clinical experiences
for 2,836 students. More than
half of the student population
represented the nursing profes-
sion. LVHN continues to build
strategic partnerships with high
schools, colleges, and universities
to identify students and create
specific programming opportuni-
ties to recruit and retain talented
professionals.
Recommendations
The student affairs database’s
standardized data collection, data
entry, and accurate reporting is a
main area of focus for the future.
There are five teams to collect and
input data on a rolling, quar-
terly, or annual basis. Therefore,
routine maintenance and data
cleaning is a necessary (and time
consuming) component for accu-
rate reporting structures. LVHN
also employs a data analyst to
maintain the database and cre-
ate reports for leadership. These
reports range from total student
numbers to the number of stu-
dent “touchpoints” before hired
to possible return on investment
by cost-avoidance at a human
resources level.
Some preliminary reports have
demonstrated an overall student
retention rate of 16% with a
focused nursing student retention
rate at 23%. This data, however,
may not represent the true reten-
tion as some attendance data col-
lected before the 2012 fiscal year
were incomplete. This lack of
data may result in a lower count
