HEALTH & SAFETY THE ULTIMATE DEVICE EXTRACTABILITY EDI CHANGES THE WAY WE MONITOR THE WORKPLACE The HSE’s push on employee health and safety is at the forefront of everyone’s minds at the moment. Exposure to environmental hazards in the workplace has been difficult to monitor, but the ProtectoScan EDI from Extractability will change that. The solution begins with the right choice of extraction. With extraction-based products, dust and fumes can be captured safely and removed from the breathing zone at source before the operator, or those around them, are put at risk. These solutions can range from fixed and mobile vacuum filtration systems, to dust extractors, extraction fans, air filters, flexible hoses, extraction arms and downdraft benches, all servicing the requirements of any manufacturing and fabrication facility. THE FUTURE OF EXTRACTION Now we can utilise new ‘smart’ technology products that provide intelligent, data-driven protection in the industrial workplace. A case in point is the ProtectoScan EDI, the latest environmental control solution from Extractability. This indoor Environmental Detection Instrument (EDI) measures and records real-time data for dust particulate, noise, temperature and humidity. EDI also comes with an LED traffic light display, alerting users to any notable issues, providing instant feedback and a visual representation of what is going on in the workshop. Perhaps you’ve already taken expensive steps to improve conditions but are you confident the fume, dust or particle extraction, installed in your factory, is even being used? Users can also benefit from EDI email alerts when exposure limits are surpassed, indicating extraction hasn’t been switched on, and EDI can even switch these systems on for you. All live data sits at the users’ fingertips via WiFi on the dedicated WebApp, turning the EDI into the perfect solution, monitoring and recording exposure levels for every second of the day, 365 days a year and interacting with devices and protection solutions as necessary. EMPLOYEE HEALTH The continuous monitoring of the environment in the workplace can contribute significantly to protecting the health of employees by enabling employers to take appropriate measures. With products like EDI, they can set up the automatic integration of fans or similar devices, which, with optional additional accessories, EDI can control, thus removing the fume and dust that together pose such a problem in the workplace. Extraction then is essential in helping employers remove hazards from the workplace, stay within the regulations, and improve industry and health among the workforce, creating a safe and clean workplace environment for everyone. Fume and dust exposure is most commonly accompanied by symptoms such as muscle ache, nausea, and fatigue. Illnesses caused by, and associated with, exposure to fume and gases can include, but are not limited to: Pneumonia, occupational asthma and even cancer.
