Health & Safety AUMA extends SIL solutions BSRIA Instrument Solutions applauds the BOHS Breathe Freely Initiative TÜV certification achieved by AUMA confirms that the company’s SQ .2 part-turn actuators, SA .2 multi-turn actuators and AC .2 actuator controls in SIL version comply with the highest safety requirements. The actuators have achieved full latest IEC 61508 edition 2 certification and are approved for safety-related systems up to SIL 3 (for redundant system architecture). The TÜV certification also applies to low temperature versions for temperatures ranging from -60° C to +60° C. The safety function of AUMA’s SIL actuators can be configured with different seating criteria, including forced limit or torque seating to protect the mechanical integrity of the valve. If required by the application, different seating criteria for the safety function and standard actuator functionality can be set. The initiative underpins AUMA’s commitment to comply with the industry’s highest safety standards. The PortaCount Pro+ respirator fit tester is used for the testing of full facemasks, SCBAs, respirators including disposables (P1 and P2 versions). www.bsria.co.uk How robust is your lockout procedure? Most industries are aware of the need to isolate machinery during maintenance and cleaning but in many case the processes and procedures can be inconsistent or worse non-existent. “We speak to many companies that know they need to lockout but haven’t got the knowledge or expertise to implement a robust program,” David Wheatcroft from Reece Safety Products explained. “With our support they quickly realise that implementing a structured program is not complicated and can be achieved with limited investment in time and money.” Eric Newton from RJS Engineering said: “When we realised we needed to improve our lockout procedure I called Reece and met with David to discuss our detailed requirements. Whilst we already had a good idea of what we were looking to achieve we received excellent advice from Reece and they supported us throughout the design process. The end result is a lockout policy that we are now rolling out across all of our three plants.” www.reecesafety.co.uk Empteezy® spill containment and control products Wearing face-protection equipment such as faceshields and v
