Chin Up
A
A new and exciting product has entered
the cosmetic medicine market. Kybella
(deoxycholic acid) is an FDA-approved
non-surgical treatment for double chins.
The procedure takes approximately
15–20 minutes, and when the formulation is injected directly into the double
chin area, it causes the breakdown of
fat cells (it essentially melts the fat). The
skin in the chin area contracts, creating
a more aesthetically pleasing jawline.
Visible results for the average patient
are expected after three to six sessions,
and all sessions have a required spacing
of at least one month apart. Retreatment
with Kybella is not expected after the
desired look is attained.
Roughly 80 percent of patients who
received the treatments in doubleblind clinical trials conducted in North
America and Europe declared themselves to be satisfied with the post
treatment definition between their
chin and neck area. Patients who saw
the greatest improvement were those

with moderate to severe fullness of the
double chin area. Kybella is only to be
administered by a licensed health care
professional, and safe and effective use
of this drug is only recommended for
fat in the double chin area. n
