INTERIORS
a custom wood and metal cocktail
table, herringbone cowhide rug,
overscaled floor lamp and crystal
chandelier offers another unexpected
combination for the interior.
In the dining room, Joel suggested
using a ghostly photograph by Trove
evocative of Savannah’s trees to provide a focal point for the space. A
Saarinen dining table and a mix of
Eames chairs in slate and antique
bergères in mulberry provided the setting for many design discussions and
fellowship while creating the home.
The completely gutted kitchen allowed
an opportunity to play off the history
of the house in a modern way. In reference to the marble mantels throughout
the house, the designer chose a laser-cut
herringbone marble for the floors. The
cabinetry is made of engineered wood
with strong vertical grains, and the
countertops are constructed from compounded paper. A custom light fixture
the same size as the island unifies the
two elements and plays off the stainless
hood, grey veining in the marble and
aluminum frosted upper cabinets.
