Old South Tradition
Meets a Riverside Home
S
Savannah is known for its historic architecture, Spanish moss hanging from
beautiful oak trees, its distinct squares and fabulous private homes and gardens.
This lovely Georgia city also enjoys a long growth season due to partially tropical
weather. Jennifer Melear, owner of Everbloom, Inc., was tasked with mixing the
formal and informal elements of a Savannah landscape to design a traditionally
“Old South” plan that also acknowledges the more casual location of a home situated on the marsh and the Burnside River.
According to Jennifer, “We created a manicured foundation and filled in with
plant varieties with a looser growth habit to create movement, as well as a variety
of colors and textures in the foliage. The live oaks, mature azaleas and camellias
are what you would expect in a Savannah garden, while the Japanese maple,
holly ferns, plumbago, agapanthus and acanthus were planted to complement
the more structured plants.”
