ON THE GO chapeau or fedora, you’ll love the results. How fun to say “I had it custom made in Dallas!” Night out on the town: Depending on one’s mood, I suggest… House of Blues is a great smaller venue for performances for a more intimate experience.  Mirth & Refuge (at The Joule) is slick and smooth—a great place to bend an elbow and feel tres swanky! The Travis has the edge on the more upscale dancing scene in Dallas. For a younger more bare-bones-but-make-ittotally-about-the-music you’ll want to head to the It’ll Do Club. Sambuca in Uptown is always rocking for jazz and rock sounds. Always good people watching too! If you’re dressed for a dive try The Grapevine or Lee Harvey’s for authentic dive atmosphere. If you’re traveling with a 4-legged member family member they’re always welcome at Lee Harvey’s! Best Patio for a drink: There’s nothing like ending the day at The Mansion’s patio bar sipping a smooth cabernet. It’s perfect. Jan Strimple began her illustrious fashion career at the young age of thirteen in her home market of Northeastern Ohio. A move to Dallas in 1980 with husband PGA Professional Dan Strimple placed her in Dallas’s hot bed of fashion. International exposure walking the top runways of the world brought Jan to the attention of London’s Adel Rootstein, resulting in a series of mannequins sculpted in her image and posed in the world’s finest stores. Her clients included European designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Lanvin, and Christian Dior and she walked for American superstars like Carolina Herrera, Bill Blass, and Bob Mackie. Jan wrote the Ask Jan column for The Dallas Morning News for five years and continues to pen articles on beauty and fashion. Today, she enjoys the creative challenges of owning the premiere fashion event production company in Dallas–Fort Worth, executing more than 60 events a year. Jan is known as a champion of youth, mentoring students from fashion design, marketing and merchandising colleges from L.A. to London. She equally enjoys the unique position of training the next generation of runway hopefuls for Dallas’s top runway agencies. OCTOBER / NOVEMBER 2013 65
