The Millennial Shift in Museum Design Just a short drive from the Kimbell is The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. This museum is a serene place to view art, and that would come as no surprise to those familiar with the work of Japanese architect Tadao Ando, as his buildings promote a certain elegant, albeit commanding, calm. He is a minimalist by nature both in his selection of materials and in the purity of his design, and he leverages the natural surroundings of his buildings to enhance the experience one has in the minimalist spaces he creates. “The Modern” is classic Ando. The museum is comprised of a quintet of glass pavilions that appear to float on a reflecting pool that surrounds the entire space. Tall slabs of concrete, Ando’s preferred material, tie the five pavilions together, as do the “Y” shaped columns which support the The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Photo by David Woo. 38 PEACHY
