The Millennial Shift in Museum Design No one would expect Dallas-Fort Worth to neglect the cultural impetus to build spectacular museums in the millennial mode, and there are actually several that must be considered as nothing less than remarkable: the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas designed by Renzo Piano, The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth designed by Tadao Ando, and the Renzo Piano addition to the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth. While not in the avant garde vein of the ICA or the Kunsthaus Graz, these museums are minimalist stunners designed by Pritzker prize winning architects. Renzo Piano, who is also currently working on the much anticipated move of the Whitney Museum of American Art from the staid Upper East Side to the hipster haven and High Line-loving Meatpacking district in Manhattan, was commissioned by Raymond Nasher to create a museum and garden for the Dallas benefactor’s world renown collection of sculpture. Nasher was courted by many leading museums, including the National The center pavillion of the Nasher Sculpture Center. Photo by Jeff Stvan, Diorama Sky. 2008. Via Flickr. 34 PEACHY
