Cuvée Doña Maria 2011
Varietal/Blend: 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah
Tasting Notes
from Bond Street Wines
Both of our wine selections are
from Domaine du Tix (Côte de
Ventoux) in Northern Provence.
Nestled below the lofty MontVentoux, the Domaine du Tix
occupies a breathtaking natural
site among the sun-drenched stone
terraces, or “restanques,” harking
back to Roman times. It is no wonder that owners, Philippe Danel
and Marie Pirsch, after long and
senior careers in textile and fashion, fell in love with this charming
estate, planted with old vines, and
decided to make high quality wines.
The Cuvée Dona Maria is a dark ruby
color pushing black with aromas of
licorice, dust, berries and Chambord.
This cuvée is 80% grenache with 20%
syrah and displays the character of a
huge grenache with full bodied structure
and firm tannin. The wine has a big
impact on the mouth with berry flavors,
mineral and dusty characteristics like
a Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The finish is
long with a continuation of the flavors
from the nose coupled with a touch
of earthiness and a wave of refreshing
acidity. Drink now after a decanting
through 2018 with full flavored meats
and aromatic and bleu cheeses.
Cuvée des Grandes Pointes Viognier 2013
The viognier is compact and restrained
on the nose with hints of what lies
beneath: white flowers, pear and
quince. The texture of the wine in the
mouth is very pleasing as it is light on
the palate but nuanced in flavor with
solid fruit and medium body. The finish
is quite refreshing, a strong positive for
viognier, with notes of pear and honeysuckle. Drink now with salads, grilled
fish or cheese. A great house white.
