Teachers are facilitators who create an environment
where students feel confident to contribute. Each student
is expected to participate thoughtfully and equally and
to his or her best ability. There is a learning curve with
Harkness, but the most reserved students always find their
voices, and the conversation “warriors” learn to listen.
Respect is a fundamental tenet of our approach — respect for the text, respect
for the contribution of one’s peers around the table, respect for the innate value
of one’s own ideas and for the daily experiment we call Harkness.”
