2016 AWARD RECIPIENTS PDA DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD For the past 35 years, Dr. Jerrold Axler has dedicated his professional life to advancing the dental profession while also forging a consequential leadership role, not just at the local and state level but also at the national level. Among his many valuable roles, Dr. Axler has served a four-year term as PDA treasurer, and also served as PDA’s Second District trustee and vice president. Dr. Axler was a founding member of the PDAIS board. At the district and local level, he served as president of both the Second District Valley Forge Dental Association and the Montgomery Bucks Dental Society. “Dr. Axler’s contributions, philosophy and ethics have paved the way for the next generation of dental leaders and have laid the foundation for strong recognition by his peers,” said Second District Valley Forge president Dr. Cynthia Olenwine. “Therefore, we believe Dr. Axler is eminently qualified to be the recipient of the Pennsylvania Dental Association Distinguished Service Award.” JERROLD H. AXLER, DDS A 1966 graduate of Temple School of Dentistry, Dr. Axler was in private practice in Phoenixville for 41 years. He began his sizable contributions to both the American Dental Association and PDA back in 1976, when he first served as an ADA delegate, and continued with his first time as PDA delegate in 1978. Dr. Axler served on and chaired an array of committees through the decades, including his time as Fluoridation Chair of Montgomery-Bucks Dental Society, member of ADA’s Council on Insurance and Membership Benefits and founding Co-Chair of the Valley Forge Dental Conference in 1986. Dr. Axler is a member of numerous professional honorary societies including the Pierre Fauchard Academy and International College of Dentists, and received the Subin Award of Sigma Epsilon Dental Fraternity and the Valley Forge Conference Annual Recognition Award in 2002. He continues to serve his community today through charitable work on the MOM-n-PA dental missions in 2014 and 2015. A true champion for patients and the dental profession, Dr. Axler’s contributions have earned him prestigious recognition as recipient of the 2016 PDA Distinguished Service Award. 25
