and inspiring. The winery has a casual and unassuming nature, yet it produces some of the best wines we have ever tasted. We toured the “lab” (which was a much smaller and informal area than I anticipated) in which the winemaker’s skills are put to the test. A winemaker must have a superb sense of taste and smell in order to distinguish every nuance in the wine. Various tests are run on the wines throughout the winemaking process to ensure appropriate levels of Brix, pH, titratable acidity, residual sugar, free or available sulfur, total sulfur, volatile acidity and percent alcohol. Although there is science in winemaking, it seems to be much more of an art. Wine Tasting – We spent a few days wine tasting which was a blast. We enjoyed Graziano and McFadden in Mendocino with free tastings (if you overlook the many cases that we purchased). We also enjoyed Francis Ford Coppola Winery, Ridge Vineyards, and Ferrari Carano in Sonoma (but not free tastings). On our final day we savored wines at Twomey and Rombauer Vineyards in Napa. Rombauer makes the best zinfandels that we have ever tasted, hands down. Window Services by Luis The first public Fourth of July event at the White House occurred in 1804.
