Every Thursday : 1:00 – 5:00 pm , the Friends of the Library are having a continuing “ featured ” Book Sale , downstairs in the JW Mitchell Room at the library . Each Thursday , a new selection of gift-quality books will be on display for purchase . Most hardback books are $ 1.00 or more . Most paperback books are $ 0.25 or higher ( Romance and Western paperbacks are only $ 0.10 each !) with the larger “ Trade ” paperbacks starting at $ 0.50 per book . DVD movies , audio books , and coffee table style books are priced at $ 2.00 or more . We have books for kids and teens ! All prices are as marked . Come back each Thursday to find new items to add to your personal library collection !
The libraryʼs Movies for Grownups shows a recently released or a classic DVD movie on our 90 ” movie screen , with a discussion to follow . The library is showing the 2016 movie Hidden Figures on Tuesday , April 25 : 6:00 – 8:30pm . Based on true events and on the book by Margot Lee Shetterly , this movie depicts the story of three African-American women , played by Taraji P . Henson , Octavia Spencer , and Janelle Monàe , who are the brains behind turning the American space program around when competing with the Russians in the early 1960ʼs . The movie was nominated for three 2017 Academy Awards . Please register for this great movie in advance by calling 928-632- 5049 . We will have popcorn , soda , water , and coffee .
The Dewey-Humboldt IONS group will meet on Tuesday , April 4 : 10:30am – 12:30pm . Located across the globe , IONS groups bring together a dynamic collection of people dedicated to exploring noetic topics toward a personal and collective shift in consciousness , with an essence in Science , Spirit , Curiosity , and Community . The local group is scheduling speakers for upcoming meetings specializing in the areas of Toltec Wisdom ( as taught by Don Miguel Ruiz ), Kundalini Yoga ( as taught by Yogi Bhajan ), as well as local teachers specializing in Nature- Based Wellness . IONS meetings are open to everyone with all points of view . Visitors are welcome !
FANS OF CULTDOM , an activity where you can enjoy movies and TV shows from a variety of different genres including science fiction , action , suspense , mystery , horror , and comedy , is held on Saturdays : 1:00 – 3:30pm . We will have movie style refreshments ! - On April 1 , we will start with season 8 installments of The X- Files with the arc-story “ Vienen ” and the two-part finale “ Essence ” and “ Existence ”. - On April 8 , we will view the latest in the Star Wars saga , Rogue One . - On April 15 , the group returns to spooky episodes of The X-Files with season 9 episodes “ Nothing Important Happened Today ”, “ Nothing Important Happened Today II ”, and “ Daemonicus ”. - April 22 will start with the brand new series 10 of Doctor Who , episode 1 . We will follow that with The X-Files episodes “ 4-D ” and “ Trust No 1 ”. - On April 29 , we will continue with series 10 , episode 2 of Doctor Who and the episodes “ Provenance ” and “ Providence ” of The X-Files .
The libraryʼs Book Discussion Group will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday , April 11 : 9:30 – 10:45am . The group is reading , Annie Freemanʼs Fabulous Traveling Funeral , by Kris Radish . This lighthearted book tells the tale of five women who have been charged by Annie Freeman , their now deceased friend , to take her ashes across the country to all the places that were important to her in a traveling funeral . On the journey , the five women learn more about each other and about what is still possible in their lives as they unravel Annieʼs secret along the way . The library has limited copies of the book available for checkout . So , come in to the library to pick up a copy of the book , and then come for the discussion . There will be light refreshments . The library will offer computer classes in the month of April on Wednesday mornings . Signup is required for the classes . Call 928-632-5049 to register .
First up on Wednesday , April 12 : 10:30am – 12:30pm we have a Computer Maintenance class which will teach the basics of keeping your Windows based computer running at tip-top shape .
Also on Wednesday , April 19 : 10:30am – 12:30pm we will offer Backing Up Your Computer , teaching you how to back up your computer and restore files in case your computer crashes or you accidentally delete files . Finally , on Wednesday , April 26 : 10:30am – 12:30pm we will have Borrowing E-Books from the Library , a class to help you learn how to use your library account to borrow E-Books for your Tablet , Smart Phone , Windows PC or Mac Computer .
Afternoon Games , for ages 7 and up , will be held on Wednesdays : 2:30 - 4:00 pm . Kids can come down to play board games including Battleship , Connect 4 , Chess , Checkers , Candy Land , Sorry !, Monopoly Jr ., Scrabble , Dominoes , Parcheesi , Clue , and more ! Also , weʼll have the Wii out to play on the libraryʼs huge 90 ” movie screen . Come and play Super Mario Bros ., Wii Sports Resort , Mario Karts , Just Dance 3 , Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games , Mario Sports Mix , and more ! Bring your Wii games to the library to play against others !
