NUTRITION REACHING OUT To Our Nutritional Roots Reaching Out to Our Nutritional Roots in a Pill Popping Epidemic W e live in a society where chronic disease rules the population and a whopping 70% of North Americans take at least one prescription drug. Prescription drugs taken as prescribed in hospitals are the fourth leading cause of death in the US and Canada and an average of 100 people die from prescription drug overdose every day. And yet, over the last 23 years there have been a total of only ten deaths alleged to be caused by natural vitamins and this is still unproven. It seems to me that there is something very wrong with our healthcare system. It seems we have it all backwards. Revisiting Our Roots As cancer and heart disease continue to drive death tolls and we continue on in our pillpopping ways, now more than ever people are turning to alternative medicine for answers. We’re going back to our roots. Literally. In exchange for pharmaceuticals and quick fix band-aid solutions, what we really need is to go back to the roots of our natural healing principles based on our founding fathers of health and choose “food as thy medicine”. Chronic Illness Rooted in Nutrition Nearly every chronic illness from diabetes to cancer and heart disease are rooted in one, if not more nutritional deficiencies. Our bodies are not deficient in Prozac or Lipitor. We were not born with these chemical constituents and I assure you, they were never part of a healthy balanced diet.
