PROGRAMS Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) General Practice Residency (GPR) A 12-month program with an optional second year, this traditional but innovative hospitalbased GPR Program is offered at Lutheran Medical Center (LMC), a level -1 trauma center in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park section. In addition, residents rotate among affiliated health centers in nearby neighborhoods surrounding our main training site. Residents are trained by a highly experienced, dedicated staff of general dentists and specialists who work one-on-one with residents in all phases of dentistry to produce a “super generalist.” In addition to emphasizing comprehensive dental care, the program integrates medical applications into dentistry. Residents participate in rotations in family medicine, anesthesia, and in the emergency room to gain significant experience in managing in-patients as well as providing dental care in the operating room. In this one-year (second year optional) community health center-based program, AEGD residents receive comprehensive training in general dentistry as well as superior preparation for advanced specialties.
