Advanced Education in
General Dentistry (AEGD)
General Practice Residency
(GPR)
A 12-month program with an optional second
year, this traditional but innovative hospitalbased GPR Program is offered at Lutheran
Medical Center (LMC), a level -1 trauma center
in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park section. In addition,
residents rotate among affiliated health centers
in nearby neighborhoods surrounding our main
training site. Residents are trained by a highly
experienced, dedicated staff of general dentists
and specialists who work one-on-one with
residents in all phases of dentistry to produce
a “super generalist.” In addition to emphasizing
comprehensive dental care, the program
integrates medical applications into dentistry.
Residents participate in rotations in family
medicine, anesthesia, and in the emergency
room to gain significant experience in managing
in-patients as well as providing dental care in the
operating room.
In this one-year (second year optional)
community health center-based program,
AEGD residents receive comprehensive
training in general dentistry as well as superior
preparation for advanced specialties. The
program builds experience in large practice
settings, working with general and specialist
dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants
and physicians Residents may select from a
