For nearly 40 years, NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine has pioneered
a hands-on, community health center-based and hospital-based
“dentistry without walls” model to train residents in ADA-CODA
accredited one-, two- and three- year programs.
MISSION: To develop and grow
national and international
oral health programs that set
global standards for technologically
advanced, culturally competent,
patient-centered dental education;
are grounded in service and
collaboration; and deliver exceptional
oral health care to the world’s
neediest citizens and its most
underserved communities.
Upon successful completion of the program’s
requirements, residents are awarded a
certificate in one of six general and specialty
programs including: Advanced Education in
General Dentistry (AEGD), General Practice
Dentistry (GPR), Pediatric Dentistry, Dental
Anesthesiology, Dental Public Health, and
Orthodontics. Every resident is exposed to
all aspects of dentistry and are immersed in
online synchronous and asynchronous didactic
curricula. In addition, each resident spends 75%
of program time in hands-on clinical training
closely observed and mentored by a worldclass faculty. By graduation, residents are fully
prepared to treat, with confidence and skill, any
complex, real-world, and oral medical challenge
they will face.
NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine is uniquely
qualified to train dental school graduates in
accredited postdoctoral programs through
partnerships and affiliations. All of our partners
and affiliates are approved by ADA/CODA as
training sites for NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine
residents.
