Parrot Valentine Day | Page 16

The next day I woke up with the big smile on my face . My parents gave me the best wishes and beautiful gift – green watch .
My good mood disappeared when I went to school . I had a lot of tests on that day and I couldn ’ t forget what I had promised my mum .
‘ Hey … Rachel , right ? All the best !’ A tall boy with little forced smile but friendly grey eyes was staying in front of me . ‘ Oh , thank you . That ’ s really nice . Who are you ?’ – I asked . ‘ I ’ m Finn . You have a birthday today , haven ’ t you ?’ ‘ Yes . But … how …” – I wasn ’ t sure what I should do . Did he know me ?
‘ You have a watch on your hand . New . I figure out it has to be a gift . And you have been sitting alone all day , so … we have a lot in common ’.
‘ I have to admit , you are really perceptive ! I mean with this watch . It ’ s not really hard to notice that I ’ m not really popular person ’.
‘ So am I ! Listen . Today is Valentine ’ s Day . Would you … maybe … go somewhere with me ? I don ’ t know , cinema , library …’
‘ You know , I don ’ t even know you . Tell me something about you ’.
‘ So … I ’ m Finn , I ’ m sixteen . I am keen on football and running . I don ’ t understand chemistry . I love yellow colour . I ’ m afraid of spiders . Moreover , I have two sisters , Grace and Isabel . And , if we ’ re talking about me , I ’ d like to take this opportunity to say that I love poetry ’.
‘ Haven ’ t you got any twin sister ?’ – I laughed – ‘ I ’ m Rachel . I ’ m sixteen . I love football and running . Okay , I hate yellow , but it doesn ’ t matter , does it ? I have two brothers , Cole and Sam . They aren ’ t living with me now . They have their own families ’.
‘ Really ? And what about poetry ?’ ‘ I don ’ t understand it but I like reading it .’ ‘ So maybe we can go together to the library ?’ Our meeting was really great . I have never read any of Finn ’ s favourite
books but he wasn ’ t surprised . He told me that he had never met someone who was interested in this kind of literature .
Afterwards , when we were eating ice-cream and walking around a city , he asked me : ‘ Are you always alone at school ? Why ?’ I had to think .
