Meet Mary Zielke, Resident of the Month Mary Zielke was born to Sam and Ethel on December 17, 1926, in Koshkonong, Mo., near West Plains. Mary was blessed to be a part of a big family as the fourth of nine children. Mary and her family lived on a big farm that raised cattle and chickens. Growing up, it was Mary’s job to milk the cows every morning before leaving for school. It was also her responsibility to butcher the chickens. Mary fondly remembers playing on the farm with her brothers and sisters and working in their garden. Mary met Robert Baur after he returned home from WW2. The couple were married on May 29, 1947. The couple eventually moved to St. Louis, Mo., where Robert worked for the Corp of Engineers. Together, the couple was blessed with two children, Cindy and Robert. During the summertime, the family loved to go fishing and camp on Norfolk Lake. After his retirement, Mary and Robert relocated to Florida. Sadly, in 1984, Robert passed away. It was then that Mary moved to Colorado to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Mary then decided to move with her daughter and son-in-law to McChord Air Force base in Washington. While there, Ron and Cindy introduced Mary to Clarence Zielke. Clarence was a Veteran of WW2, Korea, and Vietnam wars. The couple married on April 29, 1999. They loved to travel together and enjoyed going out to eat. In 2012, Clarence passed away. It was then that Mary moved to Bolivar, where she lived with Ron and Cindy on their farm. Throughout her life, Mary has enjoyed cooking, gardening, landscaping, reading, and word puzzles. Mary loves watching Wheel of Fortune and is an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Church has always played an important role in Mary’s life and she is a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. In May 2015, Mary made PVHCF her new home. Mary shared that she enjoys living at Parkview and has made many wonderful friends. She especially enjoy spending time with David S. and Sherry M. They are very good friends and are always good to check on her. While at PVHCF, Mary enjoys attending church services, singing, playing bingo, watching the aviary and the peacocks. She also enjoys visiting with her daughter and son-in-law and her dog, Cookie. Congratulations, Mary for being chosen as the Parkview Health Care Facility Resident of the Month.
