Me et Mar ily n Wh i t ake r, Re si de nt of t he Mo nt h Marilyn Whitaker was born Oct. 3, 1935, in Ne- osho, Mo., to parents, Henry Gibson Turner and Evelyn Dale. Marilyn had one brother, Jerry, who has been deceased for seven years now. Her fa- ther, Henry, was a Carpenter and her mother, Eve- lyn, was a Social Worker for the state of Missouri. Marilyn grew up in the Joplin area. “Our family was a close knit family,” she said. The family enjoyed being outdoors, camping, and swimming. Mari- lyn’s mother was the oldest of 12 children and her father was the youngest of 12 children so there were always aunts, uncles, and cousins to spend time with. Marilyn met Bill while she was in high school and the two became a couple. After graduating from High School, Marilyn attend Joplin Jr. College, and then Pitts State Univer- sity. In 1956, Marylyn and Bill were married. Bill worked as a salesman for most of his life. He sold many different things, including foods, insurance, and auto parts. Marilyn worked for the Division of Family Services in Vernon, Hickory, and Henry Counties for 30 years. The couple had three children, five grandchildren, and four great grandchil- dren. Marilyn is thrilled that two of her grandchildren live in Bolivar and she is able to visit with them often. Throughout the years, the Whitaker family loved camping on Pomme De Terre Lake. The family enjoyed swimming and taking their boats out. They had several couples that they would camp with, and always had a wonderful time. Marilyn has a love for genealogy and researching her family tree. She is also an avid reader and history buff. Marylyn has been on 20 cruises, many to the Caribbean Islands, Alaska, and the North East, and took a three week tour of Europe. She loved her time travelling and on the cruises, and made many won- derful friends from all over the U.S. Marilyn has had several stays at Parkview in the past and recently made Parkview her permeant home. She shared that the best thing about living here is the staff and friends she has made that feel like family. Congratulations, Marilyn, on being chosen as the Parkview Health Care Fa- cility Resident of the month. Are you a caring individual who would like to assist in caring for the elderly?
