Clara was the eldest of seven children born to Henry and Mae McFerron. The couple had two children, Robert and Gary. Norman was diagnosed with TB at a young age and was sent to the TB hospi- tal in Mt. Vernon, Mo. This was a very hard time for Clara and her sons. The family stayed in St. Louis while he was receiving treatments. They were able to visit him often until he passed away at the age of 38. Throughout her life, Clara loved watching her boys play baseball. The family enjoyed fishing and spending time together. “Being a widow was difficult and I always tried hard to be strong and raise my boys well,” said Clara.
