Meet Barbara Davis, Resident of the Month Barbara Davis was born Sept. 22, 1941, to Lela Mae and Ira Norman in Potter County, Amarillo, Texas. Barbara’s father drove a gas truck for many years and her mother worked as a waitress at a local restaurant called Double Dip, besides taking great care of her kiddos. Barbara was one of four girls, including sisters Joann, Shirley, and Wilma. “It was interesting for my father, as he had to share a house with 5 women and there was only one bathroom!,” said Barbara. She lived in Amarillo for most of her life (over 50 years) be- fore moving to Florida and then Missouri in 2009. In 1963, Barbara had her eyes on one of the church deacons of First Baptist Church of Amarillo, Mahlon Davis. She admired his red and white Chevy Impala in addition to his character and good looks, so Barbara was very excited when a mutual friend set them up on a date. The two ended up falling in love and marrying on Jan. 17, 1964, in a beautiful ceremony with close family and friends. Right after getting married Barbara worked as a file clerk for an insurance company, before deciding to stay home and facilitate a home daycare for her children and friend’s children. Her hus- band, Mahlon, worked as an electrical engineer at Southwestern Public Service in Texas. The two gave birth to two precious daughters, Nancy and Linda. Nancy and her husband reside in Pittsburgh, Mo., and Linda and her husband live in New Mexi- co. Barbara has four grandchildren, Megan, Jeff, Brandon, and Bailey, and one great -granddaughter, Abigail. Throughout the years Barbara has spent most of her time babysitting the little ones and singing in multiple church choirs in Texas and Missouri. Her hobbies back then, and now, include jigsaw puzzles, adult coloring books, and reading Nancy Drew and other mystery novels. Barbara has been at Parkview Health Care Facility on and off again for rehabilita- tion services for a few years before coming here again at the end of May 2018. When asked what she likes about living here, she says that “the people are incredi- bly friendly and they evidently care about us.” In addition to that, she thinks the food is delicious, and she thinks that the Housekeeping staff does a wonderful job. Congratulations, Barbara, on being chosen as the Parkview Health Care Facility’s Resident of the month! Are you a caring individual who would like to assist in caring for the elderly?
