In 2018, the Community Fitness
& Wellness Center purchased
and installed new Life Fitness
strength equipment, along with
Precor treadmills, ellipticals,
and recumbent bikes, which
completed the long-awaited
transformation. At the Humana
Fitness and Wellness Center,
we replaced the 20 Cycling
bikes and painted the Cycling
Room, converted the Power
Lifting room to a Strength and
Conditioning Room, replaced
the two StairMasters, and
added a calf extension machine.
In January 2018, we began
accepting the Optum Fitness
Advantage Program. In June
2018, two of our fitness staff
members received their “Rock
Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s”
program certifications.
What is Rock Steady Boxing?
Rock Steady Boxing, a 501 (c)
(3) nonprofit organization, gives
people with Parkinson’s disease
hope by improving their quality of
life through a non-contact boxing-
based fitness curriculum.
The Recreation & Fitness Unit includes the Humana Fitness & Wellness
Center, located at the Civic Center and the Community Fitness &
Wellness Center, located at the Community Center. Combined, both offer
a wide variety of more than 60 fitness classes a month, which include
Senior Fitness, Zumba and Yoga. As of August 30, 2018, there are 4,409
members. Fitness classes saw more than 49,654 participants. In addition
to the members, both facilities welcomed 14,706 drop-ins, which includes
basketball, Senior Fitness, Zumba, Yoga, racquetball, game room and the
Fitness Center. For FY 2017-2018, the total number of “through the door”
visits for both fitness centers, classes and recreation programs was 120,260.
