Crider couldn ’ t have been more right . Faith had the temperament for the job , but most importantly won over Mower ’ s heart . “ She and I just connected , and I said to my husband , ‘ Go build a barn .’”
Mower and Faith have been training with their friend Katelyn Vanhoozer , and Mower has been taking online courses through Pet Partners , a therapeutic animal program that trains , certifies and connects volunteers and their animals with organizations in need of their services . Besides their visits to pet-friendly stores , Mower and Faith have participated in numerous parades to desensitize her to the sounds , sights and smells that she may encounter when in public . Faith has interacted with people of all ages and abilities and brings joy to all she encounters . “ The senior citizens I meet , they have an instant connection with her and you can see that horses have been part of their lives in the past ,” said Mower . “ Chances are pretty good that horses were a part of their daily lives as part of a working farm or ranch , so it gives them this kind of throwback interaction when they see Faith .”
Mower hopes to receive their certification in about four weeks , but isn ’ t in a rush to complete the training as she wants Faith to be ready when they begin volunteering . In the meantime , they ’ ll continue training and going on public outings . Mower has developed a passion for the elderly and is looking to visit local nursing homes once Faith is certified , but she is willing to drive as much as an hour ’ s distance to bring joy to those whom Faith can help .
