PARKER COUNTY AG Averi Burks Fourth grader Averi Burks loves to show pigs. She chose to show pigs on her own, and has been having fun showing them the past three years. “My favorite thing [about showing pigs] is you can have a good time showing pigs. I enjoy it and I like competitions,” Averi said. Averi shows with the Brock FFA and loves the people. “They have a good team of people that show pigs and great Ag teachers,” she said. In her short tenure showing, she has won showmanship at the North Texas Fair and Ro-deo, along with tons of ribbons. She is still hunt- ing a buckle to add to her collection. Her parents are proud of her accomplishments and love what she has learned showing with the FFA. “She has learned responsibility, self-determination, and setting her goals of what she wants to accomplish,” says her mother, Denise. “She often knows that her chores, school work and responsibilities with her pig come before anything else.” Averi plans to show her pigs at the upcoming State Fair of Texas and the Houston Stock Show. After the first of the year, she will show at both the Fort Worth Stock Show and Kerr-ville Stock Show. When she’s not showing, she plays softball and basketball. She also loves to fish and has just recently started shooting a bow. She plans to show pigs throughout her school years, including in high school.
