for the novice to develop rudimentary skills and the ability
to produce a decent or acceptable piece of glasswork. Peck
has a day job, as a barista at Northside Remedy/Coffee and
Cocktails, a sister business to Antebellum Ale House, located
just off the Weatherford Square. But there are dreams …
specific ones.
“My goal, within glassblowing, is to make it a full-time
job, have my own business. And, either I create chandeliers
and fixtures for homes and businesses, or I create sculpture
for different museums. I do eventually want to have a piece
of my work in a couple of museums within the United States.
I want to be well-known for my art.”
That’s the thrust of it, but not the all. Peck’s sharp enough
to see the gaping hole in her plan — retirement. She won’t
always be limber and 25.
“Yeah. I think about retirement, and, how am I going to
retire on my artwork?” she said. “So I guess my big major
goal is to become a professor at Texas A&M Corpus Christi
and start the glassblowing studio and department. That is my
utmost goal. Then I can have retirement and inspire people
just like I was inspired.”
The young gaffer says her folks’ fears over her taking an
artist’s path are somewhat allayed by her level-headedness
on the job security offered by a teaching gig.
“But you can’t be a professor without learning all about it
and traveling and learning how to be an artist,” she inserted.
“Because, how are you supposed to teach the business part
of it, selling your own work, you know. So it’s a long road.”
And she knows there will be bumps along the way, but
hopefully no ruts.
