Prescott Webb wrote,
“Steam, electricity, and
gasoline have wrought
no greater changes in
our culture than did
horses in the culture of
Plains Indians.”
Long before the
Comanche Indians of
the Great Plains migrated south to become the “Lords of
the South Plains” and
the scourge of frontier
Texas, they led a life of
limited mobility. They
trudged across extreme
landscapes, nomads in
search of sustenance,
their emergence as one
of the greatest horse
cultures the world would
ever know beyond conception.
