square. You forget about the workout
because you are so afraid of who
might see you. It made the workout
go so fast,” she said. According to
Kerry Tate, the reason Sylvia has
been so successful is because she
is serious about her own fitness. He
said, “She’s very consistent in her
workout. She never misses and she’s
done very well.” He said most people
could be successful if they take a
page from Sylvia’s playbook and also
remember that, “Persistence breaks
resistance,” he said.
Because of her success, she has
decreased to two workouts a week
with Kerry, but she’s a busy lady. “I
ride three or four horses a day in the
morning. I go to Tate’s in the afternoon. On the days when I don’t go to
Tate’s I have a small gym at home.”
She also made some changes to her
diet based on Kerry’s recommendations of less sugar and more protein.
She tries to balance her plate by
thirds; one-third protein, one-third
vegetables and one-third carbohydrates. “You have to take a common
sense approach. People have to find
what works for them. You have to
keep it balanced,” said Sylvia.
The benefits of working out
according to Sylvia are more than
just physical. She said, “It’s great for
your mind. When things are crazy
and you’re really busy, that’s when
you need to work out. It makes a big
difference in your attitude and how
you feel about everything.” Sylvia
said she’s happy with her results.
“I’m maintaining right now, but I’m
not finished. This is a journey, for the
rest of my life. I wanted to get strong
enough to do whatever I wanted to
do,” she said. She’s gotten stronger and she’s got a positive attitude
about her training and the rest of
her life. “I want to get to the end of
life and slide in there sideways. Life
is supposed to be fun. I want to be
able to ride as long as I can, travel
and do all of the things I want to do,”
she finished. She said anyone can
do the same thing that she has. She
says, “Take the first step. Once you
start don’t let yourself quit. There are
some days especially when you start
that you can’t do any more. Just do a
little bit more every day. Movement
is really important.”
