to serve people and to feed people,”
Ozzy said. “... If there’s a need, we
want to try to meet it.”
“It makes me sad that communities have lost their identities, and
people don’t know one another. We
love the idea of looking out that window and seeing people fellowshipping,” Lori said.
In the near future they hope to
expand seating further out from the
patio, serve breakfast on weekday
mornings and implement catering for
special events.

Growing up, Ozzy recalls cooking
with his mother at 4 years old.
“I can remember helping my
mother mash peppers in the molcajete (the grinding stone),” Ozzy said.
“I can remember just barely peeking
over the table and mashing the pepper and getting pepper juice in my
eye.”
Just talking about her tortillas
made his lips purse. Fortunately, she
still makes a dozen – lard-based ‘n all
– daily and lives nearby.
Nearly three decades ago, Ozzy’s
fresh-made, jalapeño-filled recipes
could have ended when he married
his high school sweetheart, but she
caught on quickly. Lori’s love for
cooking helped her catch the fire and
fall in love with the food her husband has enjoyed for half a century.
From tortillas and meats to soups and
veggies, Lori said Ozzy taught her
everything she knows.
These days Lori spends most of
her time in the kitchen. She aims to
out-pace her mother-in-law’s tacos
con pollo, which she claims are the
best.
“Lori is actually a better cook than
I am,” Ozzy said. “She puts more love
into it. I make everything a lot faster.
I don’t tend to it as much as she does,
but my food is still good.”
“He gets all the glory because he’s
the Mexican,” Lori said jokingly.
With 28 years of marriage under
their belts and a wealth of savory
concoctions ready to be shared, the
two dream of establishing a legacy
by building a cocina for each of their
four children. Ozzy hopes this dream
won’t take quite as long as did his.
