our biz: BUSINESS SENSE Talk with the Business Titans SARAH CALHOUN Owner/Founder - Perfect Pointe Dance Supply SEPTEMBER 2015 PA R K E R C O U N T Y T O D AY PCT:  Why did you decide to open a dance supply store?   SC:  Late spring of last year, I had the younger of my two daughters. While on maternity leave, I thought it was a great time to enroll my oldest daughter in dance. We were in need of dance shoes and attire. I quickly realized the closest location was in Fort Worth. Having two small children, leaving the house and traveling anywhere is always an ad venture. I started thinking, there is a need for a local dance retailer in Parker County and Weatherford would be a perfect location. This was a great opportunity to get involved in a passion of mine and also a great time to create an environment that is family friendly while also having my two young daughters with me. This was my chance to start something for my family and to make a positive impact in our community. I wanted to bring back great customer service, so people would once again be excited to shop. I envisioned creating a fun experience for dancers, gymnasts and cheerleaders when shopping for items they need for the activity they love. After returning to my full time job in the corporate world, I took the biggest, most exciting chance. I left to open my business, Perfect Pointe Dance Supply. I’ve had the opportunity to meet great people in the community, make new friends and help make an impact on those who are involved in dance, gymnastics, cheerleading and fitness classes. Since I opened at the end of 2014, I have loved every moment!   PCT: Do you have a dancing background? SC: Yes, I grew up dancing. My family has always said from the moment I was born, I’ve had “Happy Feet.” Apparently whenever I heard music, I had the urge to dance and that urge continued. At the age of 5, I started ballet, tap and jazz classes at Judy Conti Dance Studio in Ohio. I continued dancing until I became a cheerleader in junior high and high school. After high school graduation, I obtained my bachelor’s of Science in Applied Science from Youngstown State University (GO PENGUINS!) in Youngstown, Ohio. During my college academic years, I was a member of the YSU Dance Ensemble.   60 BY CHRISTINA LOVELESS It was a great experience to continue dancing while meeting others who share the same passion. Dancing was a great change of pace to my full time academic and full time work schedule. At this stage of my life, my dancing is with my husband, Wade, and daughters, Reagan and Kennedy whenever music is on regardless of where we are or who is watching. Once a dancer, the love of dance never disappears, it’s just presented in a different manner. PCT: What is your favorite thing about dance?  SC: My favorite thing about dance is the way it makes me feel. It clears the mind and gives one the freedom
