When PCT caught up with the veteran actor/writer/
director/producer in mid-August, Headrick said the Sept.
1 deadline for submissions for the Hico festival loomed
before him.
“This project here, we’re not completely finished with
it; we’re looking at another couple of weeks of shooting,”
he said. “But we’re only shooting on weekends, and that’s
not every weekend — maybe a couple weekends a month.
So it does take a while to get it all together.” Headrick said
production on the film started Jan. 24, 2015, and that it
features an all-Texan cast.
Headrick has tried his hand at many projects over the
years: Christian or faith-based films, westerns, commercials
and even “high-end” films out of Hollywood.
“I’ve never gone to Hollywood, they’ve always come
here, and then I’d work on them here,” he said. “But I
really enjoy doing the independents because everybody
in there is kind of like family, and it’s just a really good
atmosphere to work in.”
He’s also acted on music videos. Remember the 1987
music video for Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead or Alive? Headrick played one of the outlaws. That was nearly 30 years
ago.
With a résumé as long as his arm (more like both arms),
Moe Headrick has acted or performed stunts in some wellknown productions: Touchstone/Disney’s The Alamo; The
Gambler V; Walker Texas Ranger (10 episodes); Steven
Spielberg’s Into the West; James A. Michener‘s Texas, The
Mini-series; Problem Child; Texasville; and Streets of Laredo, to name a few.
Listed special skills include equestrian trainer/handler, multiple-hitch driver (up to eight head at one time),
roper, farrier, saddle maker, blacksmith, period historian
(weapons, gear, etc.), stagecoach/wagon driver, hard rider,
country and western dancer, special effects and props and,
of course, cowboy.
Headrick also works full-time for Weatherford College
in the Ag Department, closely associated with the breeding
program and the rodeo team.
“Along with that,” he added, “I do Old West leatherwork — gun holsters, wrist cuffs, saddlebags, saddles, etc.,
... I know — when do I sleep?”
The Billy the Kid Western Film Festival is slated for Oct.
16-18 in Hico.
