“I was sleeping and my door was
closed. I woke to my houseguest
screaming, ‘Help me!’ Her husband
had her on the floor of my hallway,
beating her in the head. I called the
Parker County Sheriff’s Office.”

“When I was in college I brought
a teammate from California home
with me for the Thanksgiving holiday.
After the first day, he walked
around with a bedspread wrapped
around him covering him from his
shoulders to his feet. Breakfast,
lunch, dinner, watching TV, meet-
ing my friends that came over, my
sister’s friends, our neighbors, every-
body. He wore that bedspread for
the next three days. When we got
ready to go back to Baylor he goes
into my bedroom to get his clothes,
and unbeknown to me, he’d been
naked under the bedspread the whole
time. He didn’t bring any clothes,
toothbrush, nothing. When my
parents realized that they just looked
at him in disbelief as we got in my
car and headed out of town. It’s true
what they say about Californians.
Crazy.”

“I had a cousin who would come
to stay and not leave. So upon his
next arrival, I put take-out menus in
the room he stayed in. One roll of
toilet paper. Emptied fridge, leaving
outdated milk. After the first day, he
said he would be right back … been
30 years since I’ve seen him.”
A Little Advice
If you happen to be fortunate
enough to be a guest at someone’s
home overnight or longer, don’t
make your host sorry he invited you.
Don’t overstay your welcome, pick
up after yourself, don’t leave your
bed unmade, don’t arrive empty-
handed, help out around the house,
help out with meals, take your hosts
out for a meal or two, bring delicious
food items and beverages when you
arrive and leave a lovely gift or send
one when you go.
Above all, try to resist the urge
to smear fecal matter on the walls of
your hosts’ home.
