Medical science, particularly in the area of
Cardiovascular Medicine, is moving forward at a rapid
pace.
“I think think past year has been a good year for cardi-
ology and screening,” Dr. Newman said. “The cardiolo-
gists have put out a lot of good studies.”
One area he’s especially enthusiastic about involves a
test.
“We use a test that allows us to look for early heart
disease,” Dr. Newman said. The earlier doctors find heart
issues, the better the outcome. “Our physicians are look-
ing to use the test and it’s exciting to see a lot of people
being proactive about heart disease.”
Called a Calcium Score Test, it measures the amount
of calcium and plaque in the heart arteries.
“It gives a statement of the burden of heart disease
you might have,” Dr. Newman said. “We combine it
with the other test scores that we have to determine how
aggressive we have to be with someone.”
In the very early stages, some patients can stem the
tide of heart issues using non-invasive methods.
“Within the past year, we had the study of the benefits
taking the pure ETA fish oil,” he said. “It had the signifi-
