said. “It was my last class day at Tarleton before my break and I left early to get to the shelter on time.”  She was serious about finding a dog, so she looked on their website and found a couple of suitable options, but Davis had specific needs.  “I needed a calm but protective larger dog that liked cats and was good with horses and livestock.” She came upon a lab mix whose name was Bucky and decided to invest a little time with him.  “I walked him for a long time and took him around the cats and livestock at the shelter and he was a dream,” she said. Davis adopted him, they drove home together and they have become best friends.  “He immediately bonded with the horses and my cats played with him. He loves to run in the pasture next to me while I’m riding horses and he plays in the water. He has his own couch in my house and sleeps sound all the way through the night. He goes to Dairy Queen with me to get a ‘pup cup,’” said Davis. She renamed him ‘Sir George’ because of his impeccable posture.  “George is my best friend and I can thank the volunteers and the Weatherford shelter for helping me adopt him,” Katy said. A happy “tail” for sure!  With all the work needed to keep the shelter a no-kill facil- ity, WPCAS is currently looking for volunteers who have an extra hour each week and would like to make a displaced animal’s day. Volunteers have to be at least 16 years old and can use the commu- nity service hours for their school. Giving a heart and hand will lift your spirits and fill your heart with love.
