1. Fossil Rim— Experience, Learn, and Protect On your first drive into Fossil Rim, you soon learn that you are a guest in the animals’ territory. It’s a feeling that is experienced by most who enter the big gates, and not easily forgotten. A staple of Central/North Texas for over 12 40 years, this “non-traditional zoo,” has been focusing on protecting wildlife and educating the guests who take their guided tour. With over 1,800 acres, 1,100 animals of 50 different species, it is easy to feel like you’re on anoth- er continent. With the repaving and updating of Fossil Rim’s roads, driving through the park is much smoother, these days.
