Continued from page 19 our legacy: THE SPRINGER FAMILY Experts In Finance, Leaders in Philanthropy Philanthropic Leaders, Springer Financial a Mainstay on Weatherford’s Historic Square By MEL W RHODES D 68 rew Springer is a familiar name around town; he opened Springer Financial Services on the Weatherford Square in 1974. Over the years, many in the community have turned to him for financial advice and expertise. He moved here as a young child. His father was a Safeway store manager and his moth- er taught school. Springer graduated North Texas State University in 1966 with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in Accounting and Finance. Before opening Springer Services, he worked as Operational Auditor for Standard Oil of Indiana, controller for the Tandy Corporation and as financial VP for Payless Drug Stores. Upon graduating from the University of North Texas in 1988, his son, Drew Springer, Jr., followed his father into the financial sector. He spent 15 years working as an accoun- tant for a Texas railcar company, also as a leasing VP and later as president overseeing three divisions. He also has worked with his dad at different times and in various capaci- ties, nowadays on the commodities side of the business, specializing in agricultural managed futures. Since 2012, he has been the Texas State Representative for House District 68, running unchallenged the last three terms. Springer, Jr.’s proud father said his son has been an asset over the years. “Drew is such a people person,” he said. “Where I’m more of a shy person, he is very outgoing. I have Three generations of Springers: Mark Springer, Grant Springer, Drew Springer Jr., Drew Springer Sr. a hard time remembering people’s names; if he ever met you he remem- bers your name, all about what your spouse does, your kids. … Just to watch him talk to people is amaz- ing.” As far as working with his son, Springer said, “I [tell him] ‘this is what I want you to do,’ and he does it, and does a great job. Drew has run [the managed futures or commodi- ties] part of the business for me. … There’s very little that I have to do. He just takes it and runs with it. …”  Both Drews generously support numerous charities and causes. Drew, Sr.’s charities and causes include The University of North Texas (he serves on the UNT Foundation board). He recently donated and sponsored the UNT Basketball locker room as well as the Rotunda in the Greek Life Center. The Springer Family Charitable Foundation supports Camp Fire, Make a Wish Foundation, The Parker County Youth Livestock Association; The Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter Capital Improvement Campaign; Careity Foundation; The Westie Rescue of North Texas; and National Merit Scholarships, to name just a few. He is also an enthusiastic, generous member of Christ Chapel Bible Church. The favorite causes Drew, Jr. supports include University of North Texas, Stem-cell Research, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
