Tyler and his family have been adjusting for over two years now and in September a new ray of light entered his life. Parker Paws had a pup that was also missing his right eye from an accident while playing with other pups from the same litter. The family wasn’t certain how Green would respond to this pup, but as it turns out, he agreed and soon the two were best friends.  “I had a rough time for a long while dealing with certain issues in my life and when we brought him home he just latched on to me,” Tyler said. “He opens my door and lays on my bed even when I’m not home. I love him so much. He will be six months old on December 18 and his name is Asher. He is my best friend, loves to play, loves on you if you are sick or mad. He’s my dude!” Tyler is thankful for places like Parker Paws and doesn’t want people to forget about disabled pets when looking for a forever friend.  “Disabled pets need love too,” Tyler said. “They don’t know they are different and shouldn’t be treated as such. Asher might only have one eye, but he plays just like all the other dogs that have two eyes. He runs the same, plays the same, [and] loves the same. Animals with disabilities are often overlooked in shelters for many reasons — people may think they are too much trouble, too expensive, or a number of other reasons — when in reality, these animals probably have more love to give you than you can imagine,” Green said.  Green did return to school, and because one of his teach- ers, Sherri Smelley-Moman, was kind enough to bring school to him while he tended to his eye, he was able to begin seamlessly and had enough credits to finish in December, and then walked across the stage with his class at graduation in the spring of 2017. He was honored with Parker County Today’s first Horizon Award for his bravery and willingness to succeed after his accident, graduating on time with his friends. Tyler and his supportive family never gave up on faith. Tyler just finished a five-week driving course at Weatherford College to obtain his CDL license and plans to start his own business.
