hey got off to a slow start. Brit-
ton and Jamie met in high school.
She’s a native of Weatherford and he
was the new kid in town. They had a
lot of mutual friends but didn’t actu-
ally date until their senior year.
Then, they dated for a decade before
Britton proposed in 2002.
With both of them such enthu-
siasts of the great outdoors, it only
stands to reason that Britton, “popped
the question,” standing on his knees
in front of a blazing camp fire while
they were on a canoe trip.
Her answer was yes, of course.
Britton set out on their trip with a
custom wedding ring that had been
designed and crafted expressly for
her incorporating heirloom diamonds
that Jamie’s mother gave to Britton to
place in her daughter’s ring, as well
as some new stones. She loved it.
Once the wedding planning phase
was in full swing, Jamie took care of
most of the details, like venue, flow-
ers and, of course, her gown and veil.
Britton and Jamie were married at
the Van Cliburn Recital, part of the
Bass Hall Complex.
“We didn’t go crazy on the whole
