our stories: LOVE STORY Banking On More Love Than the Law Allows — Matt and Angela Towson M 22 att and Angela were guests at a party given by mutual friends when they met. “We hit it off immediately,” Matt said. “Three months later we were engaged.” A member of the highly-respected King/Towson dynasty (See King Story for more about this fascinating family), Matt grew up on the Weatherford family farm with a brother and a sister, but he always had his uncles, aunts, cousins and grandparents living just down the drive. His father is District Judge Craig Towson, his mother, a noted horsewoman DiAnn King-Towson, his uncle is Lawyer, Texas State Representative Phil King and his grandfather is famed Attorney Earl King and that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Matt chose to follow in some pretty big family footsteps down the career path of law. “It was a wonderful environment to grow up in,” Matt said. “My grandfather took me to lunch every Saturday… and people always stopped to talk to him. I didn’t understand what they were talking about, but I could tell that they were grateful. My grandfather was always helping people and it made me feel so proud to be associated with him. He was always helping people, always giving back to the people of Parker County. Seeing people’s faces light up when they saw him was such a cool thing for me when I was growing up. That’s why I wanted to become a lawyer.” Angela, on the other hand, is an only child, who chose a career in finance. She’s a commercial lender with Compass Bank for much the same reason that Matt chose to pursue a career in law. “I like to help people,” she said. Angela’s parents moved somewhat frequently, as they climbed the corporate ladder. “I’m from all over,” Angela said. “I was born in South Dakota, but we also lived in Kentucky and Maryland. I’ve been in Texas since middle school, the D/FW area, but we started off in Flower Mound.” Despite obvious differences between their families, they have many important similarities. “The work ethic is the same,” Angela said. “I’m an only child and my parents are my only family in Texas. It took me a little while to get used to the size of the King family and how every- one leans on each other, but they made it so welcoming for me, it was easy to join the family. The southern charm is definitely there.” Matt and Angela were married at Belltower Chapel & Garden in Fort Worth. Besides the breathtaking 20-acre gardens surrounding the facility, they both loved the fact that the cost associated with using the venue goes to benefit a worthy char- ity, namely ACH Child and Family Services, which helps foster children. The wedding was lovely, the bride and groom were gorgeous, the venue was picturesque, but the couple’s favorite element of the wedding was the fact that they were surrounded by their family and friends. “I had a lot of family come down from South Dakota,” Angela said. “Family I hadn’t seen in a long time came to our wedding. So, having all the people that I love in the same room was, for me the best part.” Best Advice: “Don’t get caught up in how big the wedding should be,” Angela said. “At the end of the day, it is about the marriage.” More love stories on page 56
