. B . and Lori Gross , of J . B . Gross Insurance Agency , moved into their office building at 1703 Santa Fe Drive , in Weatherford , on October 1 , 2006 . Since then , their office family has grown to a staff of professional customer service representatives assisting customers in choosing and keeping the insurance products the agency markets .
The agency over that time has also become one of the top insurance agencies in Parker County .
“ We are individuals as well as employers , same as a great number of our clients ,” said J . B . “ We make the same decisions we counsel our clients on to be sure that they are prepared to meet the uncertainties that life presents .”
At the agency ’ s website , www . jbgross . com , one can click PRODUCTS to review a list of products offered .
“ The scope of our efforts is vast and at times , complicated ,” J . B . said . “ Our goal is to provide a plan that covers the expense an individual or business won ’ t have to pay out of their own pocket because there is an insurance policy in place to help with expenses . It is really that simple . We help identify an incident one might incur . We can offer solutions to help protect against unforeseen expenses . When a policy is implemented , we help with the ongoing protection for the plan and with any assistance to keep the plan effective .” Firsthand experience
He shared a story from earlier this year of how their own products and services helped he and Lori . J . B . said on Feb .
27 he arrived home about 9:15 a . m . and found Lori in her “ She Cave ” with a terrified look on her face . She had lost her balance , fallen and bumped her hip hard .
“ When we determined that this wasn ’ t a matter of vertigo or imbalance from a burst ear drum , we called 911 and went to the emergency room ,” J . B . said . “ Lori ’ s condition was progressively getting worse . After a couple of hours and inconclusive testing for a stroke , she couldn ’ t stand on her own or get out of the bed . She was admitted to Medical City of Weatherford and she was treated as a stroke victim and had treatment to prevent another possible stroke . It was determined a few hours later it was a stroke .”
Fast forward 12-14 days . Lori ’ s stroke could have been worse . Many people don ’ t survive a stroke . Lori had lost the use of her left arm , hand and left leg . Her cognitive skills were intact , and her wit was as sharp as ever . They returned home to continue Lori ’ s rehab treatment and live the lives of a recovering stroke victim and a fulltime caregiver .
Activities of Daily Living , or ADLs
• Getting out of bed in the morning .
• Walking across the room .
• Going to the bathroom .
• Walking from room to room .
• Sitting and getting up from a chair .
• Getting dressed .
• Cooking a meal .
• Eating a meal .
“ All of this is easy stuff , right ? Not for a stroke survivor ,” J . B . said . “ Now we must figure out how to help her do all of these ADLs .” Then there was the bigger question of … “ HOW ARE WE GOING TO PAY FOR ALL OF THIS ???” Upon leaving the rehab center they purchased an electric scooter so Lori could have mobility . Their friends at Brilliant Medical Supply were quick to respond to their needs and make getting around their home possible .
“ We have been in our home for 26 years ,” J . B . said . “ When we were younger , in our 40s , stairs didn ’ t seem a concern when we moved in . Having wheelchair access to a bathroom or bedroom didn ’ t enter our thoughts . Now doorways had to be expanded , sinks replaced , handrails to help mobility … you get the picture .”
YOU SEE THE PROBLEM – HOW DO YOU PAY FOR ALL OF THESE NECESSITIES ?
Solutions : “ 12 years ago , Lori and I started a long-term care policy for each of us ,” he said . “ We remember telling our son and daughter that we had purchased these plans as their Christmas presents so they won ’ t have to help pay for our expenses as we get older and become unable to take care or ourselves . Lori and I had the experience of having to help take care of our mothers , helping both financially and with health and living care .”
Now , J . B . and Lori were in the position of seeing how their policies would work for them . Claims must be filed .
