Continued from page 4 C One more reason to love your neighborhood... few exceptions. They have more toys than the average American child has. They’ve got the doggie door down to a science. Hazmat has emerged from his funk, he treats the puppies a lot like he’s their over-protective old uncle.  I love the smell of the puppies’ breath. They are antidepressants with razor-sharp teeth that nibble on my ears, they love scratches to their velvet-soft tummies and they follow me around the house and the office expressing themselves in gruff little barks and high-pitched whines. We named them Barker Lee (Steven thought Anthony Weener was not an appropriate name for a sweet, innocent puppy) and Truman Capuppie.   Just after the puppies came into our lives — we finally found out what was wrong with Steven — it wasn’t cancer or heart disease — he had an abscessed tooth, painful and serious, but not the horrible plague I’d suspected. The puppies are beautiful and adventurous. Last week they killed a tiny snake, a bronze and ivory one. It looked like a copperhead, but I’m probably being dramatic. Scared me to death. The puppies were terri- bly proud of themselves. Once I managed to get the thing away from them and dispose of it properly, I saw the humor in it all.  There are still times when I think about my sweet friends that I recently lost, and other times when I think about the two wonderful, faithful dogs that died just a few weeks apart. There are other days when I think about all of that and I feel sad again. Then I think of how fleeting life is and that puppies are puppies for such a short time and I should enjoy them as much as I can for as long as I can. If that doesn’t work, I bake a cake, brew some coffee and invite friends over to see the puppies. It’s hard to feel terribly sad when you’re with great friends over strong coffee, freshly baked cake and have puppies to entertain you.  M Y CM MY CY CMY Peace of Mind is just around the corner K ACROSS DFW Including 914 Foster Lane Weatherford, Texas 76086 Online Scheduling: SolisMammo.com | (866) 717.2551 • General Healthcare • Emergency and Critical Care • Advanced and Routine Surgery • Complete In-House Laboratory • Advanced Dental Procedures • Laser Therapy • Ultrasound • Endoscopy Doctors and staff on premise 24 hours daily for Emergencies and Critical Care.
