Katelyn Vanhoozer OCTOBER 2016 PA R K E R C O U N T Y T O D AY Charity: Stars & Strides Stables Originally from Waco, Katelyn Vanhoozer officially moved to Parker County last June. “I was pleasantly surprised because I haven’t been here for very long and I don’t know a lot of people in the community,” she said. “It started because I wanted to get to know the people here so I started reaching out and hanging out with pe ople when I got involved with several different things and then Vanessa said, ‘Hey, you’re pretty cute. We’re looking for a bachelorette and I like you.’ I thought she might have been joking, maybe not. I heard about the competition in the past and my friend was a bachelorette last year, so I was pleasantly surprised.” Katelyn currently manages Vanhoozer Farm, owned by her grandparents who are Parker County natives. “Well, I’m the first grandkid and my grandparents were thrilled that I came back to run the farm,” she said. “I’ve wanted to do that since I was 4 and so they were just over the moon and they think it’s so cool that I’m coming and jumping in and getting involved with the community and Weatherford. They’re just thrilled.” Paired with Stars & Strides Stables and Tequila’s Bar Y Grill, Katelyn is planning to use her experience to help her. “I’m doing Stars and Strides and I’m so excited because it’s a therapeutic riding barn, and since I run a barn, of course I’m automatically going to choose the charity involved with horses. I’m excited to raise money for them,” she said. “I’m just happy to give them anything that they didn’t already have and I’m excited to have the opportunity to volunteer out there. My life is busy so we’re going to have to do some rearranging. Then I have therapeutic riding training through my college and then at the barn where I worked when I was younger. So I’m pretty excited to pursue that passion a little bit and volunteer up there.” Outside of work Katelyn likes to cook, having received the talent and advice from her mom. She also likes to work out. “I have to stay in shape to ride and I can’t expect my horses to be disciplined if I’m not disciplined,” Katelyn said. “There isn’t a whole lot going on outside of work right now. A lot of my life revolves around my horses and showing and getting my students to shows and building the business. So right now, I’m investing all my time in my business, so I’m excited that this is an opportunity to get more involved in Weatherford and meet even more people. I’ve already met so many people that I wouldn’t have met had I not gotten involved in this.” Bramb, of Fort Worth, has worked in the restaurant business for more than a dozen years and came to Weatherford four years ago when Tequila opened on Tin Top Road. “The owners donate to several charities,” she said. “We appreciate our wonderful guests. We like to give back to the community because we are grateful to have patrons. Every time that we can we love to participate, whether it is a big nonprofit organization or a small one, for children, the animal shelter, breast cancer patients — we love to do this for the community.” Tequila Bar Y Grill Chef and GM: Sylvia Bramb Giving back to the community is fundamental for GM Sylvia Bramb of Tequila Bar Y Grill in Weatherford. “We always participate, and we’re excited to be doing it again.” Bramb and her Tequila crew are defending champions, who won the title of Dessert Chef of the Year 2015. Tequilas is aligned with Bachelorette Katelynn Vanhoozer, hoping to raise money for Stars and Strides Stables. 76 Continued on page 80
