our healthcare: WRMC TEACHING HOSPITAL WRMC Teaching Hospital Shaping the Future of Healthcare Training Tomorrow’s Medical Superstars BY MELISSA MOORMAN W eatherford Regional Medical Center is helping to educate the healthcare leaders of tomorrow through three different educational programs. Anyone driving the highways and byways of Texas knows that we are growing. Current population in Parker County is estimated by the Texas Demographic Center at 116,927. By the year 2050 we are expected to grow to 453,381 residents in our county. As our population grows we will need services to support the massive growth. One service we all need is access to good quality healthcare. However, Texas is currently 45th in the nation in number of physicians based on our population. That’s now, before the great onslaught of new Texans that are coming. Weatherford Regional Medical Center is working to help increase the number of great physicians in our area by training some of them right here. It began last year, when the hospital became an official teaching hospital with the addition of six medical student residents studying, learning and serving Parker County. This year that number increased to 18 students participating in three different programs of study: medical students, traditional interns and first-year internal medicine residents. The program is a partnership between WRMC and University of North Texas Health Science Center’s Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. The director of the program is Dr. Lisa Nash who is no stranger to Parker County. She grew up in Brock and now lives a scant quarter-mile from the house she grew up in. Nash started at WRMC two years ago to shepherd the medical education program that will bring benefits to Parker County and the region for decades to come. The three programs will continue to grow under Dr. Little Feather Equestrian Center OCTOBER 2016 PA R K E R C O U N T Y T O D AY • Hunter/Jumper • Boarding October • Training Special Five 30 min. private • Lessons lessons for $140 • Sales 10 Owner/trainer Rebecca Innerarity has more than two decades of experience riding and competing and is certified by the American Riding Instructors Assoc.
