Homeco OCTOBER 2015 Jeri began baking cust om cakes out of her home for various parties at Houston Elementary School in Mineral Wells, where she worked as a teacher. On one occasion a fellow teacher asked why she wasn’t baking full time, which got her mind cooking. During a school test, Jeri recalls day dreaming about owning a bakery. As the students worked quietly, Jeri was doing work of her own, drawing up plans for her future business. Upon retirement from public education she immediately began searching for potential store fronts. Opting for a high-traffic area, Jeri landed on York Avenue in 2009, where Jamie first experienced the bakery. In 2012, Jeri moved the business to Santa Fe Drive, where she baked another three years until deciding to retire once more. Jeri’s Back Home Bakery was placed on the market in February, and Jamie, Erin and Amy closed March 25. Along with the brand, the trio purchased all of Jeri’s recipes and kept her staff with hopes to expand and share Jeri’s magic with the world. “Although [Jeri’s] was already going along really well, I still think there is a lot of room to grow,” Amy said. “[Jeri’s] has a really loyal following that has stayed with us, which we are really grateful for. We just really want to grow it,” Jamie said.  “We want to have a Jeri’s bakery in every town in the United States,” Erin said. “People come in and love being here. I almost think it’s a mission. We want to be able to share [this] with as many people as we can.” 89
