In Europe, Van Der Linden studied painting. Much of his work originated with his photography, as he
often painted from photographs he’d
taken.
“On my first of three tours in
Germany, 12 years altogether, I
was blessed to study under Alfred
Herzfeld at the Wiesbaden Institute
of Art,” he said. Watercolors became
his medium of choice and his passion
for art grew. He paints less these
days as photography has become the
vehicle of his artistic expression. His
photographic specialties include large
fine art travel, architectural and landscape images, portraiture and photo
editing/manipulation. He also shoots
weddings, etc.
As mentioned earlier, Van Der
Linden separated from the military in
1999. His two and a half decades of
service began a few months after the
fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, and
ended a couple of years before the
world-changing horror of Sept. 11,
